Tunnel Tom (147/365)

Tunnel Tom: Runs a little snack shack in his backyard near Tunnel 3 along the Elroy-Sparta bike trail. He sells flashlights, GoodHumor bars and water. Framed pictures show young Tom catching a tossed candy bar from a Conductor; later the last train to pass through.

Beth (146/365)

Beth Y.: Cathy's smart and preppie younger sister. I never really paid much attention to her until I discovered she was on the same charter bus headed for Quetico, Canada. Sharing a tent and canoe with someone for a week in pristine wilderness changes everything.

Scott (145/365)

Scott: When he finally found his true love after the third try many eyebrows were raised wondering would this one last. It has. He wrote and sang Lisa a love song at their wedding. Not a dry eye or unimpressed soul in the church.

Marion (144/365)

Aunt Marion: Grandma's sister. Loved a bargain. Always snagged the extra big box of chocolate on sale. Had radar for photo-ops. In most of our old family photos, there she is popping out of the corner of the frame. Helped me develop my communication skills.

Dylan (143/365)

Dylan: Anyone that can keep Cullen happy, busy and out of trouble is my HERO! How did he do this with only 76 feet to work with? Was it his South African accent? His spell was magic and his nightly Island drinks were tremendous!

Jane (142/365)

Jane C.: Anything but plain. Her face was beautiful but she kept it pancaked with a thick layer of make-up. The definition of classic American beauty doesn't embrace her skin condition so she shamefully hid it. Which in fact was the biggest shame of all.

Brett (141/365)

Captain Brett: Charming with easy boyish grin, twinkle in his eye, perfectly lovely English accent and a wicked sense of (British) humor. His livelihood is one most only dream of; sailing a 76 foot catamaran around the B.V.I.
Favorite saying: "This is NOT Disneyland mate!"

Friday, June 23, 2006

Cathy (140/365)

Cathy: A fellow Happy Foods employee that had a love for the great outdoors. When my H.S. was short a counselor Cathy was more than glad to step in. While out in the Canadian bush we celebrated her birthday by baking an open-fire cake.

Thursday, June 22, 2006

Joe (139/365)

Joe G.: Wore his Devo hat over to my house to impress me. What really turned me on though were his cowboy boots and inherited 1974 turquoise Caddy from his granny. He ran a stop light colliding with an ambulance ending his loud stereo days.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

Michelle (138/365)

Michelle: When we were young the older cousins and siblings would sing Michelle, My Bell to her just to watch her cry. I saw it as cruel, but somehow it made her stronger. She is fun, creative and most animated. Love that red lipstick.

Frank (137/365)

Frank: College art Prof encouraged non-art majors who thought they had no artistic talent that indeed they did have something to offer and gave reality talks to the art majors that thought they were actually going to be make a living off their art.

Amy (136/365)

Amy: True-blue Southerner, taught me "The Code". It's absolutely O.K. to say ANYTHING about ANYBODY as long as it's followed with a "Bless your/his/her heart". Was raised in a newer southern city and believed strip malls were fantastic until she was enlightened by travel.

An example of this is: She has the ugliest face and the fattest ass, Bless Her Heart.

Worthless Ward (135/365)

Ward (Not much of a man) Manning: Loud mouthed! Napoleon-type! Drives an over-sized SUV like a lunatic threatening to run-over innocent children. Tried picking a fight with a 6'-7" 270 pound ex-football player then ran scared to his SUV locking the doors. Mouths off to any/everyone in viciously ugly ways.

Saturday, June 17, 2006

Blenda (134/365)

Blenda: When I met Blenda I knew instantly we'd be friends. She was unpretentious, sincere and true to herself. After we moved away her husband's business took-off. She got a boob job and a tummy tuck. Meeting her now would I be as impressed?

Friday, June 16, 2006

Bruce (133/365)

Bruce: Has radar for what's on people's minds, an unique ability to ask each person he is with the most relevant questions. Cosmic synchronicity...he lived next door to my cousin becoming friends with her and her husband long before I ever met Gary.

Thursday, June 15, 2006

Bliz (132/365)

Bliz: In another time, in another place Bliz and I could have been good friends. Painfully, like other forbidden friendships I wanted what I couldn't have. Luckily(?) my intuition instructed me to keep my distance. Obeying I've successfully avoided mayhem while being humbled simultaneously.

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

D'mez (131/365)

D'mez: Through the haze that several shots of tequila provides, he is standing there and something feels strange; out of the ordinary. Is it my special sensory skills acquired in my drunken stupor or does he really have all these people under his spell?

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

Cindy (130/365)

Cindy B.: As reliable as her name...Cindys in my opinion have a way of being quite reliable while still maintaining some eccentricity. She danced our sophomore year in acting class to Layla like no other woman I have ever seen; exotic, elegant and beautiful.

Monday, June 12, 2006

Stinky Schwartz (129/365)

Schwartz: Can't for the life of me recall his first name. What I do recall is how awful he reeked. When he walked by my office I knew. He smelled like a piece of rotting Vieux Boulogne and that was on a good day.

Sunday, June 11, 2006

Judy (128/365)

Judy: To say Judy was just my mentor would be selling her short. Her role in my early twenties was crucial. I wouldn't be who I am today if not for her wisdom and coaching. She believed in me when no one else did.

Saturday, June 10, 2006

Glenn (127/365)

Glenn: We had the perfect summer love. Every Memorial Day we'd hook-up. Every Labor Day we'd break-up. This went on for awhile. We'd get back together briefly at Christmas so I could spend Christmas with his family, of which my brother Bob is a member.

Friday, June 09, 2006

Lila (126/365)

Lila: We were two peas in a pod, she was an Orthodox Jew and I was Catholic growing up in a time and place were being too religiously focused was perceived as negative. From sundown Friday until sundown Saturday she devoted herself to G*D.

Thursday, June 08, 2006

Tom (125/365)

Tom B.: Crushed on me from the apartment above mine. Spent lots of time together down at the beach, partying, dancing, concerts and biking. Ironically all I was able to think about when I was with him was how much I loved his room mate.

Wednesday, June 07, 2006

Amy (124/365)

Amy S.: Summer 1986 rode our bikes from Elroy to LaCrosse, canoed the Mississippi. Classically trained guitar player with a mysterious older boyfriend/music teacher named Eric that no one hardly knew. Becoming more comfortable with her sexual self she discovered she was happier loving women.

Tuesday, June 06, 2006

Lenny (123/365)

Lenny: One of many late elementary, early junior high crushes. We talked on the phone for hours especially about food. He loved Ravioli which I had never eaten before. He thought that was strange and odd. I thought his mother was strange and odd.

Monday, June 05, 2006

Bird Lady (122/365)

Bird Lady: Homeless lady, found daily perched out front of the Chicago Board of Trade. Waiting. Traders and clerks tossed their half smoked cigarettes at her feet. Birdlike she'd swoop down, pick-up the butt, slip it between her parted lips in one fluid euphoric motion.

Sunday, June 04, 2006

Trader Joe (121/365)

Trader Joe: He was any hollowed eye Board of Trader that had all going for him except lack of discipline. Giving a 23 y.o. <$ plus a 2:00 quitting time often spelled alcoholism, drug and/or gambling addictions. Their personages not evolved enough to know better.

Saturday, June 03, 2006

Gia (120/365)

Gia: Her father was the warden of a big jail in downstate Illinois. It framed her. Used this as her excuse to why she never tried anything daring or illegal. Truth be told she was just too afraid to taste the decadence of life.

Friday, June 02, 2006

Spider (119/365)

Spider: His name was Tom but he went for awhile as Spider. He struggled with a lot of venomous poisons. Whose to know if he would have turned out this way regardless, but losing his little brother on Mother's day could not have helped.

Thursday, June 01, 2006

Mary Anne (118/365)

Mary Anne H.: Inspirational California girl moved to Chicago to attend all woman's Catholic college where her aunt of same name was nun/professor. Brought a spirit playful yet focused. Lost touch but still many happy memories glow. Appreciate her knocking the kinks out of my back.
